Growing Good News Kids in a Safe Place with our Families.
Director: Pastor Ben Torr
Kids Ministry at CPE Church just keeps on growing! We have lots of children from church families growing up and joining our Preschool Groups and we’ve also had plenty of new families joining our church seeking an engaging, Bible-based Program for their kids.
We’re convinced that the family home is still the primary place of discipleship - that’s what the Bible teaches, that’s our experience and that’s what all of the church and ministry research says too. At home and out and about, all throughout the week, time together in your family is where kids really grow as followers of Jesus.
Our Sunday School ministry exists to support your families as you raise your children to know, love and follow King Jesus. We want to help your child Grow as a Good News Kids.

Highlights
- I (Ben) am always so thankful for our Leaders and Helpers’ passion, dedication and sacrificial service preparing for our Sunday Program and investing in the lives of all of the young girls and boys, the next generation of our church community! We are also so thankful for the support and encouragement of all of the parents, carers and families who get their family to church on time every week, chat with their children at home about what they’ve been learning and affirm and celebrate our Team Members. We love hearing stories about kids singing songs they’ve learnt at home, older siblings coming home to teach their younger siblings what they learnt in Sunday School and big questions your kids are asking you at home.
- Here’s a brief snapshot of our Sunday School teaching series over the last year (we try to follow the sermon series in church where possible):

-
Term 1 - Following Jesus - What does it mean to be one of Jesus’ disciples? - Matthew (knowing who Jesus is, praying, bearing good fruit, trusting him more every day, putting him first, loving each other and helping others follow him too)
- Term 2 - The Way of the Cross - 1 Corinthians. God’s good news looks silly and weak to the world, but it is God’s wise and powerful plan to save us. This changes how we relate to each other, what we value in our leaders, how we watch out for sin and live holy lives, how we live in a world with different values and stand out for Jesus
- Term 3 - God’s Big Story - The Bible is one big story about God’s place to his rescue his people. From Genesis to Revelation, we saw how God has made and keeps his promises to bring us back to him through Jesus so we can live with him forever.
- Term 4 - Living God’s Wise Way - Proverbs - God knows the best way to live in the world that he has made. We learnt about learning from discipline, understanding our hearts, friendship, the power of words and anger). And we learnt that wise living begins and ends with fearing the Lord. Humbly submitting to his rule and authority is the foundation for all wisdom and understanding. And this looks like following Jesus, the wisdom and power of God, who came into this world to save us and show us how to live as God’s special people.
-
Last Term we learnt all about Living Hope from the Letter of 1 Peter. We learnt that we have a living hope because Jesus Christ rose from the dead. So now we live together as God’s special people looking forward to his return and pointing others to Him with our words and actions.

We ran our first mid-term Connect Week (Week 5) and now plan to make this a regular feature of our 9-week Terms. We cut down the formal input time and spent more time in Small Groups so Leaders and Kids can build relationships and enjoying sharing and playing together. From all reports, this was a great opportunity to get to know kids better, enjoy time together and for leaders to share their testimony with their Small Groups.

Our Family Services Teams have continued to do a great job providing engaging items and creative resources for when our kids join us for the School Holidays. It’s been great to see different leaders telling stories and leading songs up the front for our whole church to worship God together!

Our 2024 End of Year Celebration with Parents, Carers and Leaders was a great time to reflect and give thanks to God for all that he has been doing in this Ministry Area. This year the Southside Chinese Church hosted the presentation and provided lots of yummy food for our shared morning tea!
Challenges
- Coming into 2025, we had a number of Leaders finish up for various reasons. This meant we were the equivalent of one Team short in Term 1! (I’m very grateful for our Team Leaders who led by example in sacrificially serving to fill the gaps as well as other CPE church members who put their hand up to help out and fill-in where needed!) Thankfully we’ve had a few more Leaders and Helpers sign up to help out but we still need 4-5 extra Team Members. Please pray that God would provide more labourers to work in the harvest with us!
